Anna Chancellor on the cover of Saga Magazine. We shot Anna in an upstairs room at The Old Vic Theatre in London using gels to create a dreamy look and feel. As a portrait photographer actors are one of my favourite subjects.
Viktoria Modesta
Viktoria Modesta on the cover of German electronics giant Saturn’s print magazine. Modesta wears a prosthetic made by Sophie Oliveira Barata from the Alternative Limb Project. You can see Sophie giving a Ted Talk on the subject below: As a commercial photographer Viktoira is a wonderful subject to shoot.
Jackson & Levine
This image of Laura Jackson and Alice Levine was recently used in Stylist. It’s been over three years since they started their Supper Club and have since written food columns for Company and Elle.com, and have a cookbook due out in 2017. When they’re not cooking, Levine can be heard on Radio 1, whilst Jackson presents ITV’s Take Me Out: The Gossip. There shared flat off the Kingsland Road was a great space for this lifestyle shoot.
Psychologies
Summer portraits shot on location in Streatham Common for Psychologies. We used the summer light and filled it in using a shoot through, giving a warm tone and positive feel. As a London based portrait photographer if was the first time I had shot in this location, it was great.
Robbie Williams
My image of Robbie Williams used by German Magazine Welt der Wunder. Robbie was shot in a blacked-out room at The Langham Hotel in Central London. The image was created using multiple gelled high speed flash pops….As a portrait photographer it was great to work with robbie.
Metropolitan Magazine
Shot for Metropolitan Magazine, here are a number of features commissioned for what is the Eurostar onboard magazine. A journalistic spin on First Dates (long before First Dates aired). Always shot in cramped restaurants in London and Paris, so adaptability and speed are key. As a portrait and lifestyle photographer its alway fun to find yourself in these random situations.
Sport Uncovered - Round Up
Here is a slideshow showcasing my ongoing project Sport Uncovered which is being shot for Sport Magazine. The aim is to show top British athletes in positions they would naturally adopt in their master sport, but also in the nude, in their ‘rawest form’. So far we have shot some of the leading names in their respective sports with new images being added every two weeks. As a sport portrait photographer I have found this whole series a delight to work on.
Dominic Cooper
Shot at W Hotel off Leicester Sq, these are some images recently used by The Times of actor Dominic Cooper. Cooper has worked in film, television, theatre and radio and is perhaps best known for his role in the film Mamma Mia and stage production The History Boys. As a portrait photographer I love working with actors as they are so used to collaboration.
Runner's World shoot
This shoot, a commission for Runner's World, showcased the 8 most improved amateur runners in the UK. We shot at White Rabbit Studio and managed the shoot from subject liaison to post production. The pictures were taken with a shallow depth of field to really draw the viewer in; all wearing Asics. Behind the scenes video from the shoot below. All the subjects were a dream to work with - as a sports portrait photographer you couldn’t wish for better subjects.
Philips
Here are a few images from a recent shoot for Philips to promote their new range of vacuum cleaners. Brand ambassador Aggie MacKenzie, a face known to many, was really great to work with. We managed the full shoot, from hair and makeup right through to all studio and lighting logistics and post. As a commercial photographer it was great to mix product and lifestyle.
Fashion and Beauty
I have recently been working with 4 of the biggest fashion and beauty bloggers in partnership with leading cosmetic surgery firm Transform.
We produced all aspects of the shoot in-house from styling to location scouting.
“This is a significant and groundbreaking campaign not only for us but for the UK cosmetic surgery industry, ” said Steven Taylor, marketing director at Transform.
We shot at a location house in North London, producing an entire suite of lifestyle imagery.
Fellaini - Manchester United
Recent Images of Marouane Fellaini-Bakkioui. The Belgian and Manchester United star recently defended his playing style insisting his game was physical but fair. The 28-year-old escaped a ban after appearing to elbow Emre Can in the Europa League last-16 first leg. We traveled up to Manchester converting a room at The Lowry Hotel into our temporary studio for the shoot. As a sports portrait photographer I couldn’t have wished for a more willing subject.
Brussels, Bucharest and Budapest
A recent commission that involved three location shoots in Brussels, Bucharest and Budapest. Exploring the rapidly expanding street truck food scene. Food trucks are rapidly challenging more traditional restaurants and are fast becoming the logical step for young chefs wanting autonomy and creative control. As we were shooting out of season for the coming summer months a huge thanks to all those who willingly took part. Trying to capture summer images in the depths of winter is always a challenge but with the right lighting and logistics something that can be achieved. Whilst the trucks themselves were wonderful it was the people I really enjoyed shooting - producing a lovely set of lifestyle images.
Surfacing - Personal Project
A recent personal project entitled Surfacing. All the models were shot wearing delicate Peter Pan Collars to tie the shoot together. The dark tear was added at the last moment using a acrylic makeup product and allowed to flow. As an advertising photographer its alway good to shoot your own thing.
Gdansk - Alexander Mann
A recent trip to Gdansk on the Baltic coast in Poland for Alexander Mann at the launch of their new offices. A two day shoot with key members of staff to capture library images to use across various marketing and promotional material for the company. As a commercial photographer I am lucky to get to travel and the town of Gdansk was lovely.
Uncovered
Recent images for the ongoing Sport Uncovered series:
Danielle Wyatt - Cricketer, 24:
“I was 18 when I made my senior debut in Mumbai, India. I was dead thin back then. No muscle, no strength. But within six months of me being around the England set-up, they had me on a strength programme. Now I can hit sixes out of the park. It will always be more about technique for me, though. The girls who are naturally bigger can just go ‘bang’. But little girls like me, we’ve got to have the right technique. It’s all about timing."
Jake Ball - Rugby player, 24:
“I used to be a cricketer. When I was about 15, I stopped playing rugby and went out to Western Australia to train with their cricket academy. I was a fast bowler – built really differently to how I am now. Back then I weighed around 92kg and had hardly any body fat on me. Now I’m 123kg."
As a sports portrait photographer I’m continuity amazed as these individuals athletic abilities.
Gary Lineker
A recent shoot with Gary Lineker shot at the new BT Sport studios at the Olympic Park in Stratford. Two images have been used for two versions of the newly reworked Sport magazine: out TODAY (4th March) across the capital and key transport hubs around the UK. Below are the published covers and behind the scenes pictures showing the set-up used in producing the final images. Gary was great to work with, as a sport portrait photographer you couldn’t wish for a better subject.
Pro Lighting Interview
A recent interview for Pro Lighting Magazine, talking about the challenges faced when lighting outdoors on a shoot with Frankie Dettori.
‘Inspiration and experience play a large part in every capture. It is about using your knowledge and skill as a photographer to capture images in a very short time frame’.
‘It is a case of having to take quality photos with a minimum of fuss.’ As a sport portrait photographer its good to sometimes sit back and work out what I do!
Ayoze Pérez Gutérrez
A recent shoot with Ayoze Pérez Gutiérrez. Shot on location at Newcastle’s training ground Darsely Park. To capture Ayoze’s speed and agility we shot multiple exposures. As a portrait photographer Ayoze was great to work with, bringing lots of ideas to the shoot.
World Cancer Day
A recent project for 'World Cancer Day' in conjunction with Cancer Research UK. A series of compelling images used to highlight the 'Unity Band'- a wristband worn to support ongoing research. Shot using models who had recently overcome the disease at White Rabbit Studios in East London using Kino lighting. As an advertising photographer its great to shoot something for such a good cause.
